A group of 10 new companies aiming to enter or
increase their presence in the market estimate they
have spent or committed some $6 billion for investment
in Argentina this year.

These companies include BellSouth Corp. subsidiary
Movicom, Impsat Fiber Networks Inc. , Nextel
Communications Inc. , VeloCom Inc., Comsat, PSINet ,
MetroRed, IPlan NetworksTechtel and GTE Corp. unit
CTI Movil. GTE recently merged with Verizon
Communications .

According to a study made by the Research division of the consultancy agency Convergencia, investment in telecoms will reach
US$10,700mil in the next three years, and half of this will be invested by Telefonica and Telecom. The other main investors are
the American companies Movicom-Bell South and GTE, main shareholder of CTI, in which also the Clarin group participates.
The deregulation decree was going to besigned by the President Fernando de la Rua today, but it was postponed. Other investors
are AT&T Latinoamerica and the HMT&F group, who are going to invest US$500mil each. MetroRed (company of the Fidelity
Investments fund), Iplan Networks, Techtel (of the Techint group), Impsat (of the Pescarmona group), Comsat, Nextel, VeloCom
and PsiNet are the other companies who are already installed. Their main activity will be in the corporate sector, which turns over
US$1500mil annually.
