That is a hammer mattock the ape-man geo was using. Man that is a work maker. Hate them things. I like a Drott 20 for small trenches. Good prospecting tool. What you can use is a mini-kubota. They take down into five pieces and load into the sling of a bell 206 ranger. They make trench in two hours that would take five men 2 days. Handy dandy trencher.
