Amazing? Or a sleight of words?

Ever put a match to a test-tube of hydrogen at high school? The "pop" and flame was the result of energy being liberated when hydrogen combined with oxygen. Two Molecules of water is more stable than two molecules of hydrogen and one of oxygen. To separate them again you have restore the energy. It's an uphill process which can be done by running electricity through the water. But electricity was what a fuel cell is meant to create!

Maybe you plug the car in to the mains at night, run the fuel cell backwards, generate hydrogen and store it. Next day you consume the hydrogen in the fuel cell to run the car while unplugged. Trouble is hydrogen is hard stuff to store economically and efficiently.
