You're welcome .. laughter does a heart well .. that one seemed to be the best heart medicine I could find this year.

Re the ratchet run ..

That started out as a response (somewhat) to your question about SPX puts back in October. At that time I noticed the large premium on such puts .. that seemed to indicate that the market makers were doing everything they could to take as much money as possible.

One method that I've been considering is to do these ratchet runs on a set of stocks .. such as the TechSpaetzle index <g>. This would allow someone to ease into a position without attracting to much attention.

Since starting my set of runs, I played both the call side and put side. Basically this has caused a portion of the put side to be paid for while the overall market premium has been going down.

A couple of adjustments I've made just recently :

Buy in targets are now 3/4
Sell targets are now 3 (same as before)
Sell method now is to run stops once the sell target has been hit.

Bought into SPA today .. just 100s paid 5 .. CNBC & the SEC are still trying to figure out why the stock ran today .. here is what I've found so far:

Starter seems to have launched an internet site in addition to the 31 retail outlets they have.

starter.com

A while back they warned that earnings will not be all that good because of the NBA strike .. however ..

You've basically hit the root of the problem of the whole licensed product industry. Who takes the risk of work stoppage and player trades? The leagues never have and never will. It's easy to say you don't buy into the "if I don't someone else will" defense, but this is the reality of the situation. Case in point is the NHL on ice deal. Starter and Nike showed fiscal responsibility to not sign the deal based on the inflated value the league was putting on it. Yet two other companies were dumb enough to sign.
As for the WCW deal, the retailers I have spoke with are excited for the product. WCW merch was second to NFL in holiday sales. WCW fans spend the bucks!
While I think their management problems are far from over, this deal is the first good move they've made as far as trying to become less reliant on greedy leagues.

If the above is true about the WCW they could be about to come out with an upside earnings surprise.
