Attended a BE demo tonite.

In Q&A the question of acquistion was posed and the BE rep said there was no truth to the rumor that BE would acquire Apple (hee hee).

Seriously, he doubted that Apple would actually *acquire* BE. He allowed that the relations between the two companies was very good with Apple higher ups providing BE technical cooperation. There are numerous ways the two OS's can co-exist in the same box.

Since BE's great strength is in multi-media applications, I asked how BE could avoid *competing* with Apple. He said that, as a veteran of UNIX wars (Gates viewed the carnage with glee), he very much realized the necessity of cooperation.

BE also sought a QuickTime license from Apple but decided against it because the price was too high. (Sounds like the basis for a cross licensing deal to me.)

Re: the X704 chip, Jean Louis Gassee, the BE CEO is an investor in Exponential (as is Apple) and expects the BE OS to support it.

BTW , the meeting was hosted by AMUSE - the Amiga (!) Users Group.
