Then what is the purpose of putting it in another folder if it will stay in the inbox? So that you can group and view your emails by the labels that you assign them to.

It also saves storage space for google since there is only one copy of your email. If I receive an email from a friend that talks about investment ideas and also mentions a new song, I can assign it a label of "Friends", "Investments" and "Music". I will then see that email whenever I open my Friends label, or when I open my Investments label or when I open my Music label. But there is only one copy of the actual email.

It takes some time to get used to.
