Personally, I value the comments and positions of those that would short IDX. Shorts have as much right to this board as longs as they have a stake in the market movements of IDX stock. It is not unAmerican or disloyal to short a stock and we should not treat these people as if they were evil.
These are the same people that will fuel the buying and quicken the rise in price if what most of us believes comes to fruition. Dont sweat the opinions. Just take out what has merit and review your own position.....

If you were at a party talking with your friends and a stranger aproached your group and said that he was unhappy with the host you could 1) ignore them, or 2) ask them "why?".
I am asking "why?" and I expect a better answer than "just because."

I found the following at the Identix website -
Identix prevails in patent lawsuit brought by competitor ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 20, 1996--Identix Inc. (ASE:IDX) on Friday announced that a federal court in California entered judgment in its favor in a patent infringement lawsuit brought by Minnetonka, Minn.-based Digital Biometrics Inc. (NASDAQ:DBII), a competitor.
The judgment, which awards Identix its costs, ends the lawsuit that alleged that Identix TouchPrint products, TP-600 and TP-900, infringed a patent held by DBI. In its ruling, the court reaffirmed its earlier opinion that held the TP-600 did not infringe and also held that the predecessor product, the TP-900, likewise did not infringe.
Randall C. Fowler, Identix chairman, president and chief executive officer, who is also named a defendant in this suit, commented: "We are very happy to have the court's final decision in this matter. We were confident from the outset that our products, which resulted from our own innovation and efforts, did not infringe on DBI's patent, and the court's decision confirms our belief."
1) Could this press release be any clearer on the DBII lawsuit? 2) This was not difficult to find. Am I out of line to think that others should take the time to visit Identix's website before claiming the company is doing a poor job of communicating?

Company Press Release
Identix, NEC Sign Five-Year Strategic Manufacturing, Sales Agreement
Combined Technologies Create New Law Enforcement Verification System
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 1997--Identix Inc. (ASE:IDX - news), a leader worldwide in live-scan systems and biometric identity verification systems, Tuesday announced the signing of an agreement for a five-year strategic relationship with Itasca, Ill.-based NEC Technologies Inc.
Under the agreement, the companies will combine their respective personal verification technologies in the manufacture and marketing of live-scan workstations designed to provide fast and accurate suspect identification/verification for law enforcement agencies.
Identix's live-scan technology will be purchased by NEC and integrated with a proprietary NEC Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) function in the jointly developed workstation, the LS-21.
The two companies' field sales representatives in the United States and internationally, except in Japan, will now be able to offer to their respective current and prospective customers the combined technologies in two forms: the ''basic'' and ''advanced'' LS-21.
The ''basic'' model combines Identix live-scan technology with certain performance-enhancing NEC functions. The ''advanced'' model adds such unique features as NEC's Q-ID quick identification software.
The Q-ID feature enables the arresting/booking officer to transmit the suspect's given name to the NEC AFIS for inquiry and receive within seconds fingerprint minutiae from up to two candidates for automatic verification.
The Q-ID process is completed while the suspect's full 10 fingerprints are being taken for transmittal to state and national law enforcement agency AFIS databanks.
Enforcement records show that such initial identifications, based on the suspect's given name, are positive more than 60 percent of the time.
According to Tony Doonan, NEC Technologies director of Sales and Marketing/Western Region, the strategic relationship ''promises to strengthen even more the law enforcement market leadership of both partners.
''Our respective technologies have been proven over the years at major police and sheriff's departments worldwide. NEC AFIS systems are now used in 30 states in the U.S. and in 11 countries abroad.
''With the LS-21, the arresting officer will be able to book a suspect and return to street patrol even more quickly than before, knowing the proper verification has been made and that the fingerprints are of the highest possible quality.''
Identix Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Randall C. Fowler commented: ''This agreement should be one that mutually benefits both parties. A strategic alliance with an entity with NEC's established reputation is another indication of Identix's leadership in fingerprint technologies.
''More important,'' he continued, ''are the advantages to law enforcement our respective technologies, packaged in the LS-21, will offer to enable even more efficient suspect processing.''
Identix is a leader in designing, developing, manufacturing and marketing products for the capture and/or comparison fingerprints for security, anti-fraud, law enforcement and other applications.
The company's subsidiaries and divisions include ANADAC/Government Services, a provider of information technology, engineering, systems integration and consulting services to government and commercial entities; Identification Services Division, a supplier of contract services for employee and applicant screening and other personal identification applications; Biometric Applications & Technology; and Identix International, which includes international selling offices in Europe, Asia, North and South America and Australia.
NEC Technologies is recognized as the industry leader in Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems, latent identifications and large (greater than one million records) networked AFISs.
Based in Washington, D.C., NEC Technologies' AFIS Division markets AFIS products for law enforcement and jail management; commercial finger imaging products for vertical markets, including social welfare services, access control, immigration and motor vehicles; and HealthID finger imaging products for the healthcare market. .......

I am not certain what your point is. Most everyone saw that news when it came out. Of course, currently there has been some nervousness (unfounded, in my opinion) over the fact that DBII has appealed the court's ruling granting summary judgment. Just so everyone is clear, IF the appellate court were to reverse that ruling, the matter would be sent back to the trial court for a trial on the issue. So, we are a long way from losing the DBII lawsuit. In any event, there is always some risk in investing. I, for one, am comfortable with this issue knowing that a judge felt that the material facts were not in dispute and that DBII had no valid claim against IDX based upon those facts. (That is how you win a summary judgment motion). -Hal

Printrak Receives Contracts Valued at $3.6 Million From National Police Agencies in Denmark and Sweden
.....Denmark is replacing an older Printrak system which was installed in 1989, while Sweden is replacing a Nippon Electric Corp. (NEC) system, the second such national NEC system to recently be replaced..... <<
NEC replaced Printrak in Indiana...and now Printrak replaces a NEC system in Sweden. Which one do you think is worth more money?
Sure sounds like Printrak is taking a jab at the NEC/IDX alliance when they say "the second such national NEC system to recently be replaced." And the timing of the release was likely prompted by the earlier release by IDX/NEC. Me thinks that Printrak is feeling the heat.

Rudybill,
For a older gentleman you sure are childish. Maybe you should think of the many reasons why some people do not have profiles..... they do not want junk e-mail, they do not want weirdos locating them, they want some electronic privacy, they want ................In fact it is not too smart/safe to put your last name in your profile. For instance here is what I found out about you via the internet in 2 minutes: William F. Krause 4328 Rudy Lane Louisville, KY 40207-2358 Phone (502) 893-2703 screenname: rudybill (i see - your street name and short for william) born in 1940 married stockbroker like betting on the horses play the greens
Now if I was a criminal, all I need to do is go down to your local courthouse and get copies of your property layout, any business dealings, marriage certificate, etc...and with a little more effort be able to get your social security number and WALLA I have a second income...........BELIEVE ME THIS STUFF HAPPENS EVERYDAY.

Well now, RudyJill must have had a bad day. I wonder why a guy would take such an aggressive attitude towards us innocent stockholders...well, let's see...maybe he's short, getting a little worried and making a weak attempt to manipulate the stock, or maybe he simply just hasn't gotten any lately, or maybe he hasn't gotten any since he is short and a little worried.
Whatever the reason, this is definitely a guy that I would want for a stockbroker...argh. Who can deny that his mastery of the written word has reached the apex? Take a paragraph from his most recent post as an example...
>>DUM de DUMB DUMB DUMB de DUMD DUMB... D..U..M..B. Funny ain't it??<<
What can you say to that. And the logic that he uses...how can you argue with it when it isn't there? Just beautiful!
My hat's off to you RudyBill. You may be short, but you are most certainly a true legend in your own mind.

Hal,
Are you seriously telling me (us) that my post "violates the spirit of the board", but that the post by RudyBill doesn't. You've got to be kidding. Tit for Tat...

I really don't care if someone posting here is long or short. In fact, I welcome both opinions.
What I do care about, though, is that they make a reasonable presentation of their opinions. When Rudybill says that the long investors are "dumb", it is only meant to be offensive and provoking, and doesn't do anything to enhance our knowedge of the business environment.
Recent posters, including me, didn't go after Rudybill because he apparently is short, but because he introduced personal insults.
Why don't we focus on the future of biometrics. Will the market explode? Bill Gates thinks so. Will IDX be a key player? Randy Fowler thinks so.

Some nice thoughts to ponder,
While it appeared that INS was going to IDX, I was a little concerned by the companies statement that the deal was not in the bag. Then when NEC, announced the LS-21, I was even more concerned by the fact that it was still in advance of the INS order. Now we are apparantly in a Win-Win situation.
Idx will now be going world-wide and again with IDXs' name being recognized.
This may well explain how we are going to get 1200 machines in sylvan, immediately!
We are one major step close to being the biometric standard and in fact probably are currently the leader in Immigration world-wide!
Like Ed said, the stock has built a nice base and like David said, the earnings will follow, along with a jump in price.
I don't really understand the shorting thing except to say, I believe the shorts hover around a stock that is risky and the second it becomes apparant the the stock is a winner, they will run away in record time! I believe I can see the backs of their shirts in the distance!
What to expect in the near future, News on the placement of machines and the opening of fingerprint centers at Sylvan locations! Great news involving KidzKard and Sylvan! Daily contracts through IDX and NEC with new States, countries, counties and cities. A major health care contract for B.A.T. smart-cards. Major U.S Bank taking the plunge into Biometrics with our technology! A major deal between Data-card and IDX involving thousands of locations! An announcement of Ademco/Pittway of the successfull integration of IDX into their product lines backed with sales figures. A major contract by ANACDAC that involves a non-goverment company with lots of clout. Contracts announced by IDX/Sylvan with schools, businesses and local goverments. Ins on-going contracts and news of delivery and placement of machines. Announcement of various contracts with Fujitsu, maybe covering the whole country of Japan. Fingerscan announcements of banking and ATM contracts in many countries.
Of course, all this is my opinion and my vision of what we have in store from our little growth stock, but I'll bet anybody a box of cyber cigars that I'm dead right!!!!!!! |
