Eric, your understandings are all correct, esp. from a user point of view.

However to achieve that there are only two possible ways. Either multi-mode, or that famous SDR(software defined radio)<ggg>.

It's my understanding that you only care about the business stuff:-) However I think you still bought in too much this GSM revolution BS.

There's no substantial difference between CDMA2000 or WCDMA as far as dealing with GSM networks. I'm not even sure the cost can be real different. It's just that WCDMA has been focusing on the GSM side and CDMA2000 has been on the IS-41 side thus far.

Now you know why it always brought me to smile whenever I heard somebody touting WCDMA's so-called backward compatibility with GSM:-)
