Nice post John. You make a lot of sense. However, the Internet is much more mature as an industry and a medium today than it was in early 1996 (we're speaking in relative terms here, remember!). History doesn't always repeat itself in different stages of the birth of a major new industry. I like the fact that CMG is reducing it's Lycos stake. They will take that cash and invest in new private companies and help them to grow to add further value to the CMG portfolio, and, ultimately, to the stock. I also like the opportunity to receive stock dividends in four potentially high-profile companies that CMG will take public this year. You may do very well trading in and out of CMGI on a short-term basis, but I do not think I could effectively time boom and bust cycles in the sector or the stock. If I had tried, I would have missed out on most of the run from the 20s where I got in. So I'm watching CMG for fun, but I'm not touching my holdings for a long time. The future will prove me right or wrong!
