Ali, I agree that AMD's chipset output has been a bust so far. But Irongate was more solid than 640 and AMD certainly couldn't start hiring until about October, 1999. I'm sure during the Athlon development AMD only had enough money to seed one 3rd party and they chose VIA, for good or for worse, while building Irongate internally. Imagine the disaster if AMD had relyed totally on VIA for Athlon chipsets and not funded an internal effort for Irongate! No amount of planning can compensate for lack of funds in 1999, and now that the money is available, employment is tight. I believe AMD has had open req's for engineers with DDR experience, Rambus experience, you name it, for six months. As for your questions on the Socket 7 chipsets, the issue back then was quality, not availability. Getting AGP, or DMA to work and compatibility with graphics cards was a big headache. (AMD 640 also!) Petz
