I don't know any Houston mayors but my mom knows them all. Just campaigned for one who won, a democrat. I don't even remember his name. I don't pay any attention to local Houston politics. I pay attention to national and maybe state politics only. and this is the first campaign I haev eevr really paid attention to because Bush-Cheney are such stinkers and I've known John Kerry since I was 15. My parents have lived in Houston for 20 years. I never have. Just visit a lot and hear the stories.

One big story I heard in 1999 was that the husbands of the wives in the Enron type companies were deiberately sticking it to California and the rest of the country to help Bush-Cheney and bring down the Clinton economy. The wives talk a little too much when they've had a few drinks. My mother, being the only democrat at some of these parties, is a good listener. Now though many of those Republicans in Houston are anti-Bush. They've had enough of it. Anyone but Bush, the ladies are saying. And some of the men too.

My mother reports now that Kerry could actually challenge Bush in Texas. But he won't because it's too expensive to try and the national elections are winner take all.
