Have you ever thought a good thought about Clarence Thomas or Condi Rice? Do you consider them race traitors as they are called by supposed mainstream black leaders. In private at the college to you make fun of them, the way i have heard them made fun of by some of my liberal friends? And there are plenty more than CT and CR who have been so tarred. I consider that a cheap shot.

"Race traitor" is not a term I use. Clarence Thomas is, however, the weakest supreme court appointment since. . . since . . . , I can't think of a weaker one. And I think Bush I's choice of him was nothing but the worst kind of politics. But that's a judgment about his legal mind. Scalia, on the other hand, was a very strong one. I couldn't disagree more with his rulings and his justifications for his rulings. But there is a very good mind there.

As for Rice, I'm not impressed by her tenure as the NSC chief. That doesn't have anything to do with race loyalty or race traitorship or anything else but whether she can do the job or not. I thought tek's appraisal made the most sense at the time, that she was largely out of her depth, given, the powerful folk around her. My guess is tek would revise that judgment now since she's weathered some of it better than that judgment suggests. But if one were making a list of significant NSC chiefs, she wouldn't be on the list.
