People make mistakes, but sometimes laws are mistakes. I think it's sad that some of the best minds in the country can't serve because in the past they made a mistake, or broke a law that probably 98% of American Citizens have broken.
I'm not speaking only about Obama's appointments, I'm speaking about all those who disqualified themselves after employing nurses, housekeepers, babysitters, gardeners, etc without proper documentation, or paying Social Security.
I'm certainly not saying that not paying taxes, even if by mistake, is okay, but it's sad when the only reason the mistake is found is when someone's appointed to a position by the President, or other political appointment, and is fully vetted.
If it were up to me, I would rewrite all the tax codes, eliminating loopholes, but simplifying it to the point where the entire document was no bigger than a good novel. It would be written in language anyone could understand, and clear enough that experts asked a question would agree over 99% of the time. As I understand it, today even the IRS's employees have a tremendous number of errors found when their taxes are reviewed because of their misunderstanding of the laws, if they cannot understand it, what chance is there for the rest of us.
I also think we should either be serious about illegal aliens, or just welcome all in. I'm talking about penalizing those who hire or exploit them, not just the Alien themselves. An old friend of ours owned a restaurant, much of his kitchen crew would routinely be rounded up and deported. Most of these people would be back to work by next shift, I believe with new I.D.'s. Perhaps the first time he employed them he didn't know their papers were false, but clearly after he was raided he knew it. He knew he'd not be penalized for hiring them back, they were good workers, he paid them fairly, but couldn't hire competent citizens for the same price, and they were dependable workers. My point is, if we're serious, he'd risk serious penalty for rehiring them, and they could not return by next shift. I grant you, I heard this from him years ago, he no longer has the restaurant, but I doubt it's any different today.
We really don't need to secure our borders if there is no advantage to coming here. If you can't get a job without a proper I.D., and if your I.D. truly proves you're legitimately here, you could eliminate 99% of illegals without enhancing the borders. Terrorists not coming here for work may be able to get in, but can we honestly keep them out as things are today, I doubt it.
