FWIW I don't see any major trouble in Yugoslavia first of next week. I heard an isolated report of rioting in Belgrade. I wrote my colleagues in Belgrade and got this response:

John, I am O.K. Everything is O.K. I haven't heard
anything about any serious rioting. Well... What you
probably heard was an incident with one the opposition
political party called Serbian Radical Party whose
members cause a lot of problems from time to time as
being Serbian national extremists. They do not approve
of the new elected party( DOS ) and its president
Kostunica.

I am in my new flat now and have done most of my work,
so I can go on with my books :)

Other people I correspond with in Belgrade have been describing things as an uneasy calm. No one is expecting big
trouble begging of next week. Long term is another story. IMHO it's all about the oil in the Caspian Sea. BWDIK
