Using fifty years of hindsight, those VP's who carried their state in the presidential elections and who ultimately were elected POTUS must have possessed something to gain voter approval.

Only Nixon and Bush Sr. met this criteria. The others were ascended into the job.(since WWII) which would cause me to evaluate them differently.
