In general......

CRO's by definition have no real buy-in to the projects or the background knowledge for full understanding of the process/product being evaluated. This leads to inefficiency and, therefore, higher costs and longer timelines. In principal, the CRO concept is a good one. In particular, they are good for the small/start-up company that does not have the infastructure to run their own trials/protocols. They are also good for the mega-trials run by the large companies who need supplementation of their own staffs. Overall, they are expensive, inefficient, cumbersome, duplicative -- but, needed.
