>>Anything you want to add, Frank?<< ====================
ahhaha, I'm glad you followed through with this one. I didn't think you'd actually do it on the new board! Congrats to you, and I suppose, congrats to me as well. And congratulations to all of those who join us here for the discussion!
I've got to tell you something, Oh Great Laughing One, your reply to me on this subject over in the HLIT thread almost put me down for a ten count! But your post was inspirational in certain ways, and I mean that genuinely.
It, along with the SR releases themselves, caused me to step back and reflect a bit on what we regard as unchallenged de facto state of the art, and what may await us right around the corner. The jury is not out on this one yet, by any means, but the prospect of their story actually bearing fruit seems real enough to warrant giving them close inspection, and from my own perspective, with some optimism.
As I view their press releases and the initial analyses of SR's claims by reputable entities, I'll stay tuned to what the operations level implications will be to the plant operating folks (admin, grooming of services, overall fabric design), where it makes a big difference to the eventual success of any new technology.
I'll attempt to assess these while formulating opinions of my own on how SR will be accepted, or why they would be initially rejected [strong possibility there], by the people who run the networks.
It may be instructive to recall that DWDM itself, like many other "breakthrough techs" was not something that the carrier network community was ready and willing to accept at first on a functional level, without a little time to digest just how they were going to manipulate colors of the spectrum, instead of hard physical cables elements.
Now that they've done that, they just may regard this new approach as something again non-standard, and it may again take them a while to adopt a working knowledge of yet another means of tsunami-like flow management.
I'm actually prepping a presentation for tomorrow morning [yes, I know... I should get a life], so I'll bail out for now, but I'll be eager to see the opinions of others here, and much more from you as the thread progresses.
Best Regards to All, Frank Coluccio |
