Usually the "deal" is your ISP's backbone provider. I also have a 44000 connect. But I signed off, and connected with my 2nd provider at 33.6 and went to the site. Was normal, loaded front page in 20 seconds. Then clicked the gallery from there, was a little longer loading at about 45 seconds.
An example for you: My main ISP at 44000 connect, I can't peruse SI's boards at all. REALLY slow from page to page! But on the other, at 33.6, it flies! VERY quick from page to page! Go figger.
Difference is the route from the ISP to SI's servers. My main one uses Sprint as it's main backbone, the second one uses ATT. For some reason, related to the routing, it takes a lot more hops to get to the servers on my main ISP.
You ever want to check for sure, spend the money for a month trial of another ISP and compare.
