Obama denies anti-gun stance, attempts to silence NRA
Sun, Sep 28, 2008 by Stephen Covington
Campaign 2008

Barack Obama’s presidential campaign has contacted several media outlets in Ohio and Pennsylvania in an attempt to prevent advertisements by the National Rifle Association from airing. The ads, which outline Obama’s historically antagonistic attitude against the Second Amednment, have been inexplicably disputed by the campaign as lacking basis in fact.

Politico has posted a memo from attorneys for the NRA, spelling out in detail Obama’s accusations (printed in the Washington Post) and countering with factual documentation emphasizing that he did, indeed, take each of the positions specified.

The memo outlines how Obama supported a 500% tax on various types of ammunition, sought to ban “armor-piercing” rounds (ie, virtually any target ammo), and supported a ban on “semi-automatic assault rifles”, an incredibly vague distinction which - true to form - didn’t even ban most semiautomatics, but fairly pedestrian types of shotguns instead.

Apparently, Obama was either completely uninformed about what he was voting on, or staffers with his campaign are making false statements to the radio stations. Hopefully the NRA will double up their efforts and put out even more ads highlighting this recent episode.
