Scott, I will admit that I don't have actual cost comparisons of the Shboom and other related chips. That's why I put up this post! The Shboom, however, has a main emphasis on cost. Check out the Specs or Email Patriot Scientific Yourself. (Web page www.ptsc.com) One of the attractions this chip apparently has compared to similiar ones is its cost. That is Emphasized about the chip all the time. It also has many more application possibilities than just Java. If there are so many Chips that can do this same thing then why would SUNW develop one of their own? Why not use A Power PC or MIPS? Probaly because those chips are more processing power and money than what is needed for simpler applications like those used by Set top boxes or Automobile.
