Are there any techies on this thread who can put the patent and product in perspective?

I bought into TII some time ago on my brokers recommendation specifically because of the movement toward cable for both telephony and the internet. I've been in over a year, got in a little below 6 and was thinking of averaging down soon. MISSED THAT BOAT!

Anyway, here's what I've picked up from Yahoo and elsewhere. It is difficult to provide telephone service via cable because the telephone is supposed to work even when the electricity goes out. The telephone company accomplishes this reliability because they generate their own power (or buy it via a secure connection) convert it to DC and run it down their copper wires to your house. Did you know that the telephone rings in response to a spike in voltage only? It's a very simple system.

To provide cable base telephony, providers install UPS's for each customer which costs a lot of $$. This is apparently a big hurdle. Does TII's product eliminate the need for backup batteries? I don't know. Does anyone?

The other question is this: Is there competition? Does anyone else offer or plan to offer similar products? LU wants to be big in this area and they've got Bell Labs for R & D. TII is very small potatoes in comparison.

[Digression: If I see that LU commercial one more time about gathering here to say goodbye to the internet as we know it, one more time, I'm going to vomit on my t.v.]
