Yeah, I know that's what you think. But let's put it in perspective.

The current annual run rate is 10 million new vehicles sold. The $1B program essentially provides for about 250,000 new vehicles. So, even if EVERY ONE of these car sales were a direct result of the CARS program, you're talking about a 2.5% increase in production. How many jobs are we talking about? Not many.

More importantly, as a salesman, you should be aware that most of these car sales would have happened either way. You know how the used car business works. I'm about to buy a car, the salesman needs to close the deal, he says, "Hey, you could save $4,500 if you bring in a clunker. Go get a $300 clunker, you're in business".

There is no evidence that EVEN ONE JOB was saved with this program. Not one. So, maybe a few were. Was it worth a billion or more? Hell, no.

Wasted money. Not much, I'll admit. But it is a stupid idea.
