Anthony@Pacific: Thanks for your reply, that does make sense.

The reason this came up was several contributors to this thread noticed this happening on issues with high volume.

Speculation ranged on this thread from: (I may have left some out.)

A - Volume drying up so MMs were trying to give the stock a trading direction by expanding the spread and thus moving the price in the direction of selling or buying and there by increasing trading volume.

B - MMs trying to discourage short positions.

C - MMs trying to slow down day trading.

D - MMs making more money.

E - MMs trying to reverse the price trend.

Do any of the above thoughts hold water at anytime? TIA
