I wish they would label the trucks it would make the process a whole lot easier. Yellowknife is a small place 17,000 people and there is one road into town and one road heading north. There are a couple marshalling yards in town where supplies frieght etc are stock piled and then on the way out of town an area where echo bay has their dispatch and a big weigh scale. Most trucks stop off there before they head north.
Anyone can drive the road but if you are over four tons (I think) you are suppose to stop get weighed and you pay a tarrif for the use of the road. That way one company maintains the road but everyone contributes to its cost.
On the weekend when I saw the drill I stopped to have a look at it and just asked the dispatcher whoes it was and where it was going.
As for WSP I know the local contractor who is going to take the bulk sample are getting geared up to leave today or tomorrow.
So if you see some unusual loads and you ask around you can usually find out whoes heading where. However its a busy place there is a truck heading out or returning south every few minutes, day and night.
Occasionally you do see some pretty interesting or unusual loads heading out. It takes two days to three days to get to most of the sites, with a heavy load you have to drive slow on the lakes.
