Efficient Networks and Nokia Telecommunications Collaborate to Deliver End-to-End Broadband Access Solutions
Nokia to Reference Sell Efficient's SpeedStream DSL Customer Premises Equipment; Both Companies' Products Successfully Tested and Certified as Interoperable
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 23, 1998-- To further advance interoperable Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) solutions for service providers, Efficient Networks, Inc., a leader in DSL Customer Premises Equipment (CPE), and Nokia Telecommunications have signed a strategic marketing agreement.

According to the agreement, Nokia will market Efficient Networks' SpeedStream ADSL CPE as an interoperable complement to their DSL central office and access management equipment offerings.

The co-operation will provide a seamless end-to-end architecture for supporting Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) over ATM/DSL connectivity from the customer through the central office to the service or content provider.

''Efficient Networks is pleased to co-operate with Nokia to provide end-to-end interoperable DSL solutions,'' said Mark Floyd, president and CEO of Efficient Networks, Inc. ''This relationship underscores both companys' commitment to offering proven DSL solutions to service providers around the world.''

''Efficient Networks' DSL modems and software enables pre-configuration by network operators to simplify installation and management for broad scale DSL service deployment,'' said Olli Rissanen, Vice President, Network Terminals, Nokia Telecommunications.

''Coupling Efficient's SpeedStream products with Nokia's Eksos family of central office and access management products offers an ideal solution for rapid deployment of scaleable DSL services.''

Product Interoperability

Nokia and Efficient have demonstrated seamless end-to-end interoperability among Efficient's SpeedStream 3020 ATM/ADSL DMT internal modem and its SpeedStream 3010 25Mpbs ATM adapter with Nokia's Eksos R700 Remote Access Node, and Eksos B20 Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer platforms.

Testing included PPP/ATM (Point-to-Point Protocol over Asynchronous Transfer Mode) interoperability.
