I suppose you could look at it that way. But I tend to look at the real estate loss as a bad decision by previous management. The facility that was built was excessive and expensive. By selling the facility (even at a loss) they unlocked the value of the property. This results in lower operating costs and cash to put back into the company.

The Borland campus has been for sale for years, probably because nobody wanted to pay for all the excess. Just because you dump $60,000 into restoring that nice old Mercedes, doesn't mean you can sell it for that! The Scotts Valley campus has been a drag on the company's balance sheet for a long time. I for one am glad to see it go.

By the way, Borland still owns 2 office buildings in Scotts Valley. As opposed to the main campus, the 2 office buildings are profitable ventures.
