Some might say that Intel invented and evolved the market i think IBM invented the market and msft evolved it. intel did just what any other company would've done (as mot did with 68010, 20, 30 etc). if ibm didn't select 8088 and msft didn't keep the rights to dos to sell to other people, intel might have been a failure as it tired to switch from dram to programmable chips.
