Before my grandmother became unable to communicate, my mother asked her, towards the end, what she enjoyed the most.

My grandmother said, "I like to dream" and made a floaty motion with her hand.

I like to dream, too.

It seems to me that if you are not in unbearable pain so that you cannot sleep, that even if you cannot talk you can still enjoy dreaming.

As for wishing you would die in your sleep -- who doesn't wish that? Painless and effortless cessation of being, when the time comes. That doesn't mean you want it soon.
