NSCP Isn't 100% Certain What It Wants To Be Yet...

Or, to put it more aptly, NSCP isn't sure what the market--and
industry--will allow it to be... in the face of new competitive
pressures as well as old ones.

I think we will be seeing--what an American diplomat used to call--
"press release negotiations": positions being carved out and claims
being made and balloons put aloft on a trial basis, all as part
and parcel of some very intense negotiations. We can expect
NSCP to put all sorts of smoke signals out in the coming days...
heck, they've already done so.

This business about wanting to be a "media company" is a
classic case of the me-too-ism that is characterizing the megasite
business. NSCP then goes to on about how its cheaper to be a
content aggregator rather than generating original content: more
me-too-ism with a dose of fiscal restrain thrown in for taste.

NSCP's destiny, and this is no exaggeration, is at stake.
Thus this self-definition process is pretty darned important.
But, it also won't be, IMHO, very revealing with these initial
press releases. I think they are trying to put fear in some
hearts... and try to get some better deals and more cooperation.

That's my guess, at least...

Best Regards, SEEKers,
