Network Appliance, the California-based $500 million provider of network attached data access and content delivery solutions, is looking at the emerging data and disaster recovery centre market in India to garner a majority share for its products. It is also keenly looking at the oil and gas exploration segment for an increased market share in the country.

Network Appliance is credited with the pioneering concept of "network appliance," an extension of the industry trend towards dedicated, specialised products that perform a single function.

Network Appliance country manager George Thomas told Business Standard that the company was looking forward to grow by 200 per cent every year for the next two years. "India is the biggest market in Asia-Pacific and we expect to grow at a minimum of 200 per cent in the next two years." With data centres and disaster recovery stations being set up around the country, the company expects a significant number of sales to be accounted for by these segments. The company is also in the process of appointing more distributors around the country.

According to Merill Lynch, the company, which is very strong in the network attached storage system (NAS) segment, has a 46 per cent market share around the globe.
