Re: This is just the beginning - Here comes Java!

Just how much money CAN you make selling application development software like JAVA? Most users do not write thier own code. JAVA SDKs only sell to a small percentage of programmers and nerds. Of this small percentage of people some may still goto MSFT or BORL for thier SDK needs. Although I agree SYMC is probably leading in this area, I doubt that there will be enough profit from the JAVA side of the house to make a significant contribution to earnings. Their AV product has a better chance BUT they have very stiff competition mainly from MCAF. As far as I can tell MCAFs AV product is selling just as well as NORTON AV. So there is no dominant leader in this market YET.... SYMCs other products do show promise, namely ACT and Winfax Pro. But they also have a bunch of OTHER fluff products.

Basically SYMC is just doing OK... i.e. no real growth yet. Which is bad. But at least they are making enough earnings to justify a 14-17 trading range in the near future. analyst consensus for this stock I think is right on.... HOLD.

Just my .01/shares worth...
