The problem of messages like "<g>" showing as blanks is now fixed on the Subject page. This took quite a bit of work because I had to rewrite the meat of the page to display the way I do on iHub rather than using ASP.NET's datagrid.

Now to apply the same fix to Inbox, which should take considerably less time since I've done most of the underlying work.
