Happy 4th Stitch. [Ref:Sanskrit & Indian influence in Malasyia]
Good morning Stitch:
Speaking of Sanskrit and the Indian influence in Malaysia, it is interesting to note that how human interaction between different people have shaped the history of the world through the centuries.
Another Sanskrit word is Bhasha or Basha as in Bhasha Indonesia which I think means 'language' in Sanskrit.
Bumi or Bhumi I think means Earth (or soil under the context) and Putra means Son, consequently Putri will be daughter' as in 'Sukharnoputri' of Indonesia meaning Sukharno's 'daughter and also Sukharno's daughters last name. I don't know what other Sanskrit words are commonly used either in Malaysia or Indonesia,perhaps you can elaborate on this.
As for other Indian influence in the region I hear Rajendra Chola of Tanjore, a South Indian King, conquered part of modern day Malasyia along with parts Indonesia,Sri Lanka etc during 1012-1044 AD.
I also understand during ancient times Indian traders along with Chinese and others frequented the islands, much later during British times, like you said, I am sure Indian bureaucrats were called to duty
over there along with a lot Indian laborers (particularly the Tamils) were also brought in to work in plantations.

PS: I have an acquaintance in Malaysia who flies for Malaysian Airlines. I knew him when he was here in Texas getting his flying license.He is Indian but a Malaysian citizen,actually he is from my home state back in India, I guess his parents of grand parents migrated to Malaysia but still keeps their property and house in India and spends their holidays there. |
