Governor Romney is reported to have written seventeen different drafts of tonight's speech. Fox reported this excerpt from the final draft:

To the majority of Americans who now believe that the future will not be better than the past ... I can guarantee you this: if Barack Obama is re-elected, you will be right.

I suspect that Marco Rubio's speech tonight, introducing Romney, is going to be indescribably important. It is the only time a speaker will have the real opportunity to tell the country what Romney -- both the person and the politician -- is really like. Ann Romney was constrained by the fact that she is his wife. Rubio will have more freedom to tell it as it is -- to talk about Romney's decency, his charitable nature (He donates 16% of his income to church and charity, while Joe Biden donates .2% -- that's two tenths of one percent -- of his), his devotion to God and family, his reasons for seeking the presidency, etc.

Many people who know little or nothing about Mitt Romney will get to know him to the degree that Rubio is willing and comfortable in being specific. And the more specific he is, the more he will paint a portrait of a leader who has all of the qualities that Barack Obama lacks, yet who doesn't flaunt them for political purposes or gain. It will be Marco Rubio's job to do that for us tonight!
