The money men think XM's onto something. Wall Street analysts estimate that the satellite radio market will be a $2 billion business by 2005, with anywhere between 34 and 43 million subscribers. XM says it can break even with only two million customers, meaning the company's potential energy is tremendous. In a nation with eight million long-haul truck drivers and 23 million new car radios sold every year, the market for diverse, long-listening radio is enormous. XM went public in October 1999 at $12 per share [ticker: XMSR], and was trading at around $32 per share in early February, after spiking above $40 early in the year. XM has signed an exclusive deal to put its radios in all General Motors cars, while its New York-based competitor, Sirius Satellite Radio, has landed an exclusive deal with Ford.
YAHOO and MTNT also have a deal for Yahoo branded pagers with internet access that went unnoticed. This was back in July, should be coming to market soon.
