Interesting article from Drug Discovery & Development about Abbott's internal lab automation program. Some things they make are specific to Abbott's efforts; trickle companies would not make any money developing such things. Others clearly could be commercialized. Indeed, as noted a while ago, their uARCS HTS system has been licensed to the latest Trickle portfolio holding, Discovery Partners International. I could see their system for x-ray crystallography sample prep and automation being commercialized, too, and perhaps others.

Also from the same folks, an article about Millipore's new plastic that keeps analytes from sticking to the dialysis equipment (thus throwing off results of serum protein binding studies). MIL is soon to be a trickle company due to its impending split with the microelectronics division.
