Spots The first thing is to rescue non-backed-up data. I don't care how rigorous your backups are (and mine aren't all that great), when the crash comes you're bound to want to get a SOMETHING you were doing. I'm a little confused here. How will the backup NT be kept as a full copy of the constantly changing, in terms of files, documents and such, primary NT install? I was under the impression you meant to create this other install of NT on the secondary drive and more or less forget it until it might be needed. Do you also mean to keep it current with the primary NT? That would be a lot of extra work. I guess I didn't understand you as completely as I thought<g> What am I missing here? Should be pursued gradually. You MUST feel comfortable in doing it, not compelled, or it will do more harm than good. Yes..I'm beginning to understand the importance of this statement. restore the DI, that goes to hell, what next? You're backup NT This is very good... you said once to never be put in a situation where you're at your final fail-safe level...if you have to use your final fail-safe ever then create another level. Consistant thinking , Spots. you can boot your backup independently (via the bios) where I have to boot my backup from the same hard drive as my main OS. All the credit for this line of thought goes to zp. I think his simple concept of two (or more) completely independent systems off the same motherboard is brillant. It is a foundation for recovery that can be elaborated on as you have done with this primary OS backup.. Clarence
