But the point those headlines wish to make is a different one, that those signs characterize the peace protests. And the reasoning behind that stretch is so apparent but familiar it hurts. It's been a very long term aim of the right to try to delegitimize in this fashion. McCarthy was hardly the first; and we are clearly entering a time, once again, when the right feels it has that opportunity.

No matter how many demonstrations laced with anti-Semitism are pointed out to you, no matter how many overtly anti-Semitic articles get printed in The Guardian and other Euro left-wing venues, no matter how many pro-Palestinian protests become anti-Semitic riots, no matter that "peace protesters" are now dressing themselves up as suicide bombers, you know how to file all the charges: under McCarthyism.

All I can say is: Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.

Meantime, what's left of the Liberal Left continues to back slowly out of the room...
