Heard this many times, but does it make sense? Why should killing off many tens of millions of people, including a large part of the younger population, coupled with an enormous destruction of property and the economy, get us out of an economic depression? Can't see how one can follow from the other

It was the ramping up of industrial production for war materiel that helped end the Depression.

The Willow Run plant was located about 20 miles from my hometown. At its peak in 1944, that plant produced 650 B-24 bombers per month. 650 a month. Can you imagine an industrial plant in the US today that could have that production? That's but one example of increased industrial production that took place during the War years. It had nothing to do with killing off people or destruction of property. In the US, the war effort pumped up the US economy.
