It's certainly an interesting study - I'll have to read more thoroughly.

One complication is that it is now thought that one early phenomenon in AD is partial loss of the blood brain barrier. That might allow infections to penetrate the brain earlier and might explain the correlation they are seeing.

There was a similar theory in heart disease (infection with the bacteria Chlamydophila pneumoniae) that did not pan out.
