from my dealings on retail floor one thing drives sales: whats in the sat ad!!!!! lets package a CTX heap, generic monitor, and low end printer for one convienent price... one weekend cpq, then PB, ACER THAT is what people go for......very little research is done and a majority dont even know why they "need" one. Not to sound demeaning but many NEW buyers dont have patience or knowledge to really do much with a PC. doesnt matter, what is cheapest i will buy is ringing in the stores. more sophisticated buyers go for the overpriced HP stores dont care.....they make money on service plan, printer cables, etc. jsut my 2 cents
