excessive seratonin is indeed a gift for anyone with such an astute grasp of reality

I am not so sure how "astute"... the opinion may seem so, but in the end it is irrelevant if I cannot profit from it... so far, i have, but only marginal, i need a better trading discipline to really exploit my own views... meanwhile, they will remain mere rants. -lol

ISN’T TECHNOLOGY AN ARCANE ISSUE FOR A STRIKE?

The contract language at issue is “very arcane” but also very important, says Jason Greenwald, a spokesman for the maritime association. “What we’re talking about for the most part is the ability to implement technology and have a process in place to have technology brought in.”

Union officials say the technology issue is a fig leaf for the shippers to outsource new work to non-union workers. “This is not about technology — this is about busting the union,” said Steve Stallone, a spokesman for the union.

The shippers have guaranteed that every current union member will have a job for life. But the union is fighting for more: to preserve future jobs and to retain significant control over the supply of labor on the docks.

<snap>

Well.... duh... hell, why isn't it that the union also ask for some sort of "guarantee" against all ills and disease, and a promise that everyone will live happily ever after...

to retain significant control over the supply of labor on the docks.

hmmm... if that statement was made by MSFT they would be crucified and be told they are a bunch of monopolistic pigs, waiting to be axed by the (*)Sherman act... yet the unions, unashamedly express the same?

I see... a "lock" on the supply of labor...? Hell, why not finish the sentence with... "Control over the supply of labor, so the unions can DICTATE terms, price and conditions of the labor. i.e. control just like the government, a "lock" on the right to be unashamedly corrupt and despotic.

i say f*kem... let them compete with workers of the third world and if they do not want to, then tough sh*t.

I do not mind negotiating in good faith, but what they want is ridiculous, why should they ask for "special" conditions while the rest of the world has to deal with real competition... too cushy during the 50's and 60’s right? They took advantage of the rest of the world... well... the news are... the rest of the world have learned, so deal with it now.

The more I read about all the "ills” of the economy and the complete disconnect from the different players, the more I am convinced that the bear market is just beginning...

I suppose, I have not been convinced of this before because I tend to be a "realist - optimist" however... the more I witness in terms of meaningful actions by others, (example this strike), the more I get convinced we are headed for a dark hole. [The sign for a bear market rally soon? -lol]

The Sherman Antitrust Act (1890)

Section 1. Trusts, etc., in restraint of trade illegal; penalty

Every contract, combination in the form of trust or otherwise, or conspiracy, in restraint of trade or commerce among the several States, or with foreign nations, is declared to be illegal. Every person who shall make any contract or engage in any combination or conspiracy hereby declared to be illegal shall be deemed guilty of a felony, and, on conviction thereof, shall be punished by fine not exceeding $10,000,000 if a corporation, or, if any other person, $350,000, or by imprisonment not exceeding three years, or by both said punishments, in the discretion of the court.

(*) Section 2. Monopolizing trade a felony; penalty

Every person who shall monopolize, or attempt to monopolize, or combine or conspire with any other person or persons, to monopolize any part of the trade or commerce among the several States, or with foreign nations, shall be deemed guilty of a felony, and, on conviction thereof, shall be punished by fine not exceeding $10,000,000 if a corporation, or, if any other person, $350,000, or by imprisonment not exceeding three years, or by both said punishments, in the discretion of the court.

what difference do the unions have over the trusts the above act refers to?

The unions conspire, using the control over the supply of labor, to restrain trade.

As the union "monopolize" (and control) the supply of labor to ultimately STOP trade altogether... why ? the "right to strike ?" What about the right to WORK without having to belong to a union... That is extortion...

DO NOT FORGET, YOU SHOULD NOT STEAL, THE GOVERNMENT HATES COMPETITION,

IF YOU OFFER YOUR LABOR TO COMPETE AGAINST THE UNIONS, NOT ONLY WILL THEY HATE YOU, THEY WILL BRAKE YOUR FINGERS, (OR YOUR ARSE)
