Cody - Re:" End of current cycle"
From a technology cycle , yes - the plain old Pentium stuff is on its last legs.
Early next year, The MMX versions of the Pentium will come out, as well as the Klamath - Stripped down/souped up/MMX Pentium Pro.
At that point, a new technology cycle will start. I can only guess as to what kind of impact this will have on the PC Market cycle.
Maybe people hold off buying, maybe people rush out with "pent(ium) up demand and buy like crazy. My crystal ball is out for repair, so I can't help here.
Short term, everything is crazy. I find it much more comforting to estimate long term trends and invest accordingly.
Re:"from training costs with many employees leaving for other companies. ..."
Now there's a good way to reduce training costs - let your employees leave! This could be a short term finasncial boon! (and a long term kiss of death!).
back to Compaq and exectives jumping ship.
I don't know all the personnel, but I know Gary Stimac left several months ago and Ross Cooley resigned recently. At least one other person resigned recently as well.
These executives have been with Compaq forever, almost. Their bank accounts are swollen so they are no longer in need of a monthly paycheck.
Intel just had two big executives quit as well. In these cases money isn't an issue. Increasing a fortune to a larger fortune may be an issue. Egos, personality clashes, wanna-be-the-top-dog syndrome, etc., all come into play.
Heck - look at Clinton. He has so much work ahead to rebuild his cabinet, you'd think he was a woodworker!
