and a fourth monitor for email. OK, here goes for the CRT Olympics...
I'm driving 4 15" LCD monitors, a pair of 21" CRT monitors, and two 6' video-projection screens off of two NT machines (Quad cards)... plus 2 laptops, and Realtick III on a pair of 18" LCD's off a Pentium III; had to expand the house's 16-port Ethernet to 32 ports; three Real-time quote sources streaming in off the internet, one off a Satellite dish. My other half requested the projection screens, since she watches this stuff with me intraday... they are great! We still feel like more screens would be beneficial ;-)
A few years ago, while also trading Futures and Options (software-package intensive) I was up to over 20 CRT's with Satellite, Cable, and internet RT feeds, it looked like the NASA control center. I had to install extra power feeds and air conditioning to get rid of the heat, plus opening up the wall into the spare bedroom to fit it all in. At one point, I swore off the complexity, computer consultants etc. and went to one laptop, trying to trade with a more simple environment. That lasted about two months... <GG>
I met a Bond Futures scalper, Carl from Miami - in one of Walter Bressert's courses who trades 100-lot positions (CBOT) intraday for 6 ticks (3-tick stops)... his setup is over 50 Pentium machines, an array of dishes on the roof... redundant power systems...all kinds of custom hardware to distribute his feeds -- he is maniacal. I'm just a garden-variety stock trader myself <G>.
