re: do it quietly -- if it has to be done at all

that is hard to do quietly considering $18 bil worth of contracts otherwise I would agree with you

re: Further it does not get us any mileage except the satisfaction of getting even with them.

I do not believe that we went and rabbed it in Chirack's face but we had to let companies know of our conditions

re: France, however should be singled out for worse treatment than this

well, france had to make up for jobs lost due to lost sales of weapons to Iraq and france counted on US to pay for those jobs and plus. In addition French are loosing over a billion/year in trade deficit with US and close to 2 billion/year if compounding is considered. In addition recent weaker $ is going to help our side. And if france would boycott american products as they threatened to do we are looking at US boycotting the france and farther reducing trade deficit with france - we can live without their wine but can they live without our technology. French lost good portion of tourist money that is not considered in treade calculations

The bottom line we are hitting france hard and french feel it as their economy hit harder than US's after 911.
