To thread, I've seen URL's pointing to the Coherent thread as well as receiving a copy of these COHR posts by E-Mail. I suspect that others have been subjected to this hype as well. My response to the email follows.

Ian.

Anon,

1. It seems rather odd to me that "Crossy" would have information that has not been released by either Lambda Physik or by Coherent. Nothing at their web site or in recent news to match his post.

cohr.com

2. Crossy's posts have not caused him to gain any credibility with me.

3. Neither posts nor LP's Press releases, should they come, sell lasers or anything else. Quality products sell themselves instead.

4. Reality is "Cymer has a virtual monopoly" for this market segment. They're neither arrogant nor displaying false confidence in what they have. Rather they're working feverishly to maintain or extend their lead. For another company to displace CYMER at this point, the newcomer will have to have substantially better price / performance. R&D by chipmakers has been done with CYMER's lasers. Those companies are unlikely to switch horses midstream unless there's a huge incentive, IMO.

5. I have made my investment with CYMI. Internet hype / hypesters will not convince me of anything related to any investment.

6. I'm quite willing to freely share any knowledge that I have with a view to helping others. I'm not sure that that spirit of cooperation is shared by all. In that spirit, I will post this response and your letter. I will preserve your anonymity.

Some posters have taken an adversarial position. I suspect that such posters feel they can only win if someone else loses. So much for thinking Win-Win.

I am emailing it for obvious reasons. I asked Crossy not to post it
on the CYMER thread. We don't need the range excitement. We have more volatility in the Thread than is in the stock now.

The JMARIANS reming me of night of the living dead.

Let me know what you think of the Lambda thing. I believe, personally that Crossy and others read too much into it. Especially when assuming that the use of the word conventional meant "CYMER". The context he refers to is shrewdly worded. Conventional may have been a reference to mercury vapor.

Here it is:

Hi everybody,
news at Coherent thread regarding development of new high-performance excimer Laser by Lambda Physik:
exchange2000.com

Lambda Physik, Inc. (3201 W. Commercial Blvd., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33309;
Tel: 954/486-1500 or 800/EXCIMER, Fax: 954/486-1501) and
Matsushita Research Institute Tokyo, Inc. succeeded in the joint
development of a high performance KrF excimer laser for semiconductor lithography. Dirk Basting, president of Lambda Physik, says that he believes this laser will open up a new era in excimer laser lithography.
It will also have a dramatic effect on the reduction of cost of ownership, making this laser the most economical choice for lithography.

The trademarked NovaLine LITHO/S KrF excimer laser operates at 248 nm wavelength. In this ultraviolet (UV) region, a small difference in
wavelength significantly affects the performance of the stepper optics.
For high resolution lithography, a small wavelength bandwidth is of vital importance. In this respect, the new jointly developed optical resonator fulfills the most stringent requirements.

Utilization of Lambda Physik's trademarked NovaTube metal/ceramics
technologies is said to provide high throughput and low operating costs.
Among the characteristics of this laser are for high resolution stepper, narrow bandwidth is achieved; for high throughput stepper, high output power at high repetition rate is achieved; reduction of the running cost by factor of two is achieved, compared to a conventional laser, using NovaTube technology.

looks like good news <G>
best wishes
Marcus Eder aka CROSSY
