Doug - Re: "In the future: digital camera, video phone...." These applications will require lots of CPU horsepower. If they are indeed in the future, and all you need is the current office applications you mentioned, I'd go for a cheap system, with the thought in mind that it will be a "throw-away" in a few months or a year. Get a cheap $700 or $800 box with whatever CPU inside - K6, Pentium MMX or MediaGX - but most MediaGX's don't have MMX capability yet! Stay away from anything with a Cyrix 6x86MX chip. However - BUY THE BEST MONITOR you can afford! The monitor is what you will spend your time looking at CONSTANTLY - so buy nothing less than a 17 inch monitor from a top quality manufacturer. My personal favorite is NEC, but Sony and Mitsubishi and a few others are right up there. Don't be surprised if that monitor costs nearly as much as the PC! AS for future digital camera stuff - the future will bring you more and better and cheaper alternatives. A year from now a 400 MHz Pentium II will likely run you less than $1800. If you don't mind tossing out or obsoleting today's purchase, you will be well rewarded for the wait. And you can use your "new" monitor that you buy today! Paul
