I remember a clip of Dick Armey on the floor blustering (in 1993 I believe) that if the CLinton tax hikes go forward the nation will be thrown into a depression. Instead, six years of boom boom economy and for the first time since 1960 or so, SURPLUSES, three years of them.

I recall the Republicans claiming the country would be thrown into a depression if Clinton was elected.

The classic conservative response is, ~"Yeah, but that's because of the Contract with America. That saved us."

Contract with America item #1 did it...

1. THE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT

A balanced budget/tax limitation amendment and a legislative
line-item veto to restore fiscal responsibility to an
out-of-control Congress, requiring them to live under the same
budget constraints as families and businesses.

And here we are a decade later with the Repulican Congress in-control of the budget and living under the same budget constraints as families and businesses?
