Orion -

I haven't used NTFS formatted standalone drives, but I have written to NTFS formatted shared drives on my Windows XP machine from OS X. One issue is that for each file you write, you get a second file with a name in the format of "._[filename].[ext]". These files contain the "resource fork" information that is included as metadata in the OS X file system. By default, such files are not shown under XP, but if you have "show hidden and system files" checked for the folder they're in, you'll see them.

You probably already knew that, though.

Also, I've seen permissions problems on drives shared under Windows 2003 server that are being written to from OS X. The two systems do have different permissions structures, which can lead to some unintended results.
