The flip side of that generation are those who came of economic age in the inflation of the 1970's with shortages, price markups, and the rapid decline in the value of cash.

Their experience that if you did not buy something today, you may not be able to afford it for anumber of years in the future, or it might be off the market. Not as powerful as having something reposesed, but a strong memory still. I am in this group.

If we head into inflation, these folks will be tempted to get cheap debt and load up on hard assests, like metals, real estate, oil and gas, and energy intense consumer goods.

I have a number of objections to VAT which I might note later. Note that savers are being penalized with the very low interest rates.
